on a site under 6 metres wide.
At Murray Avenue, the work brought together contiguous pile walls and foundation piles on a steep, narrow residential block. Hard rock, changing levels and neighbouring shallow footings demanded careful staging.
Excavators and a masted rig worked through successive stages, with temporary support where needed to manage sand migration and protect adjoining ground.

an existing structure.
For Hunter Group’s serviced apartment project, The Heavies installed foundation and shoring piles around an existing carpark structure. Old footings, overhead slabs and services restricted access.
Working with the site team, we installed the required piling for the new lift core while the surrounding structure was retained.

A useful conversation

You do not need a completed set of plans to get in touch. An address, an idea and a conversation about the site are a useful starting point. We can work with your engineer or recommend suitable engineers when needed.
Understand the constraints
Site access, working space, existing structures, services and ground information help establish a practical installation approach.
Coordinate the details
Structural and geotechnical information inform pile selection and construction. We coordinate our installation with the project’s design and site team.
Plan the sequence
Working platforms, spoil handling, reinforcement and concrete deliveries need to fit the site and the build programme.
Can you build retaining walls for a deep site cut without a basement?
Yes. Our piled retaining work includes substantial site cuts and changes in level as well as basements. The appropriate wall system and construction sequence depend on the engineer’s design, ground conditions and surrounding structures.
What is the difference between bored piles and CFA piles?
Conventional bored piling forms a bore before reinforcement and concrete are installed. CFA piling places concrete through the hollow auger as it is withdrawn. The project engineer’s requirements, ground conditions and site constraints determine the appropriate method.
Can you work close to existing homes and in restricted access?
Our Newcastle East and King Street projects both involved tight access and existing structures. Every site needs its own review of available working space, equipment, temporary support and installation sequence.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Start with the site address and a short description of the proposed work. If available, include architectural or structural drawings, a geotechnical report and photos showing access. Plans are helpful, but you are welcome to call before they are complete.
